Dragonkin
Fire Wyvern
Among the many wyvern breeds, the Fire Wyvern is feared as a master of the skies. They fly with incredible speed, using their ridged spines to cut through air currents and twist mid-dive with precision. Their long, lean bodies are built for flight, with powerful wings and sharp dorsal spines that help them cut the air and change direction in an instant. Their most terrifying trait, however, lies in their thurium. This organ resonates with Ether, allowing them to interact with oxygen and volatile gases in the air, forcing combustion.
Their flames can engulf entire stretches of land, searing forests or breaking enemy lines within moments. Though smaller than drakes, their strength is enough to tear down trees, scatter hunting bands, or lift wagons into the air. With keen vision and tireless stamina, they patrol vast territories, striking without warning and leaving nothing but charred remains in their wake.
"It cut through the clouds like an arrow, and in a blink the sky turned to fire. The blast tore the trees apart and when the smoke cleared half my party was gone, nothing left but boots and ash. I do not know why it passed me by, but it circled above as it fed on what remained."
The Identity
When shaping the Fire Wyvern, we wanted a design that immediately felt fast, dangerous, and recognizable, while moving away from the usual clichés. Wyverns are iconic creatures, so the challenge was to keep their essence while giving them something distinct. The large dorsal spines became central, helping define speed, balance, and the image of cutting through the air like a blade. Even in a still pose, the body had to suggest momentum, as if at any moment it could take off and vanish into the skies.

The Mood
From the start, the mood was about power and control. We considered many depictions, from showing it mid-flight to crushing the ground with a fiery strike, but the focus settled on grounding it. A stance where the creature, even without flying, carries an overwhelming presence. The glowing maw and spines gave us the opportunity to show how it charges fire, not as a random flame, but as something built and directed with precision. This choice created a more intimidating and intelligent hunter rather than a mindless brute.
The Essence
The true essence lies in its fire and in the raw strength of its body. The glowing spines along its face and back suggest the build-up of combustion, almost like a creature speaking with the elements before igniting. At the same time, it had to look powerful enough to rip a tree apart like twigs, a beast of intelligence and brutality combined.

Final Design
I hope you enjoyed our journey in shaping the Fire Wyvern.
