Quendikin
Fwllings
Once known as the Gnommers of Magmore, the Fwllings trace their roots to the inventors and builders who once flourished in the northern region of Glimerthund. When Drako’s awakening shattered their cities and drowned their machines in molten rock, extinction seemed certain. In an act of mercy, the Ether Tree reached across the land and bound the few survivors to nature itself. Their bodies fused with the forest’s essence, their skin turned in hues of green and blue, and moss and flora began to grow upon them. The Ether stones they once used for invention melded into their flesh, becoming living sigils that grant each Fwlling the ability to shape flora, commune with faerakin, and bend ether through the art of Physio.
Guided by Ether’s pulse, the reborn kin journeyed south to the Silk Forest, seeking refuge from the corruption that devoured the north. There they found harmony, turning a portion of the forest into their sanctuary, now known as the Fwlling Forest. Within it, they live as druids of balance and renewal, nurturing the land and guarding its creatures from the Go’ggobs and the spread of shadow.
Though small and often dismissed by other Quendikin as harmless, Fwllings are deeply attuned to Skyland’s living rhythm. They can stir roots, rouse vines, and command the forest’s will with a thought. When threatened, the land itself moves to protect them. What they lost in invention, they gained in connection, becoming living bridges between Ether and the wild.
"I thought them harmless, small things with flowers in their hair. Then I saw a child lift her hand, and roots burst from the ground, snapping like whips around a Ho’ggob twice her size. Weaklings? No… the forest moves for them."

The Identity
In shaping the Fwllings, we wanted to move away from the familiar image of old gnomes and reimagine them as something both fresh and rooted in Skyland. We kept their small stature but gave them oval heads, and oversized ears, with a blend in their bodies of nature itself, marking them with moss, vines, and flora. Early compositions placed them high in the trees, tending the forest with their innate gift of Physio, showing their role as healers and protectors of the wild.

The Mood
Despite their tragic past, the Fwllings carry a playful energy. We aimed to show them as forest dwellers who are resilient yet whimsical, balancing strength with charm. Adjusting proportions gave them a softer, more approachable look, while still capturing the sense that they are both guardians and companions of the land.

The Essence
The heart of their design came through light and detail. We focused on the glow of Physio energy as they mended bark or stirred the air with Ether, surrounded by tiny faerakin insects drawn to their presence. Subtle veins across their skin hinted at chlorophyll, a reminder that they are more plant than flesh now. In the end, the Fwllings became what we envisioned, small, playful, and unmistakably tied to the living forest.

Final Design
We hope you enjoyed this glimpse into the playful druids of the forest, the Fwllings.
