Dragonkin
Forest Lindwyrm
Deep under the roots of ancient forests lives the Forest Lindwyrm, a burrowing titan over twenty meters long. Unlike other lindwyrms, these are built to carve the earth. Their skulls are thick and ridged, used to smash through rock and collapse tunnels. Their claws can tear soil and stone apart as easily as flesh, and entire caverns bear the scars of their territory battles.
Unlike wyverns or drakes, Lindwyrms’ thurium are underdeveloped. In the case of the Forest variant, they sense faint Ether currents through the ground. This gives them a near supernatural awareness of what moves above. Once prey steps into range, the Forest lindwyrm erupts from below in a violent ambush, dragging its victim into the dark tunnels where escape is impossible.
"As I crossed the forest, the ground split in a heartbeat. My steed went down and I fell with it. Then it rose above me, that towering beast, soil still sliding from its claws. I froze, but my legs kicked before my mind did as it lunged. I lived by chance. My steed did not."
The Identity
The Forest Lindwyrm was one of those designs that had to break away from the common tropes. Most lindwyrms in fantasy look the same, so we asked ourselves: what makes sense for one that lives hidden beneath the forest floor? That question led to its huge claws, inspired by giant anteaters and moles, and a reinforced bumpy head used to dig through roots and stone. This not only gave it purpose but also shaped a body that looks unique while still believable. The idea that it can run with its claws forward made it even more threatening, more than just another crawling wyrm.

The Mood
We wanted the composition to feel like the exact moment of an ambush, that second when the ground bursts open and you realize too late what’s in front of you. Instead of showing the creature from afar, we chose a close perspective, right in your face, so you feel its size and aggression. The dirt flying, the sudden eruption from the soil, and its body lunging forward, all of that made the scene feel alive and terrifying.

The Essence
What brings it all together is the eerie atmosphere. The foggy forest backdrop sets the tone, dim lights make the lindwyrm stand out, and the rim light gives it an almost unnatural power. The glowing eyes add menace, while the dirt, broken roots, and moss clinging to its scales tell you where it comes from. It’s a predator born from the forest bed, unseen until the moment it strikes, and by then you’re already too late.
