Fwlling Forest
Hidden within the eastern reaches of the Silk Forest lies the Fwlling Forest, a sanctuary born from tragedy and rebirth. The Fwllings were once the Gnommers of Magmore, inventors and builders who thrived in the northern lands of Glimerthund. When Drako’s awakening brought ruin to the north, their cities crumbled and their machines turned to rust. In their final hour, the Ether Tree intervened, merging the few survivors with nature itself to preserve what remained of their kin.
Their bodies changed, their skin took on hues of green and blue, and moss and flora began to grow from them. The Ether stones they once crafted as tools fused into their bodies, becoming living sigils. Guided by Ether’s call, the Fwllings journeyed south and found refuge within the Silk Forest. Over time, that place became their new home — the Fwlling Forest — where nature and Ether now thrive as one. Trees stretch high into the mist, their roots pulsing faintly with light. Flowers shimmer in rhythm with the flow of energy through the air, and vast fungi bloom in soft luminescence, forming a living monument to rebirth.
Here, the Fwllings became druids of Skyland, nurturing balance and protecting life from the Go’ggobs and the creeping shadows. Their forest grew wild and aware, a place of peace for those who respect it, and peril for those who do not.
“I thought it was just a colorful forest. Then the vines started to move, curling around my boots like they were alive. I heard whispers and giggles in the leaves, but also some odd breathing… Something was watching, and it wasn’t just the Fwllings. I turned back before the roots decided to keep me.”
The Identity
We began sketching the forest with the goal of making it feel alive with large, interesting trees, but distinct from the Ether Tree. Early drafts focused on tree shapes and layout, exploring how to give the land character without turning it into another sacred grove. We tested silhouettes, root arches, and canopy layers, yet the scene felt too still.
However, we reached a point that was not exactly what we imagined. We wanted something more alive, almost like a fae realm. We want to go back to our inspirations like Alice in Wonderland, a place that felt whimsical but rooted in Skyland’s natural energy. That vision led us to rework the entire concept from the ground up.

The Mood
The next phase focused on exaggerating life and scale. We pushed every element, thicker roots, larger blooms, twisting stems, until the forest itself felt like it could move. The flora became towering, with oversized flowers and vast mushrooms glowing in the mist. This shift gave the composition that sense of wonder we were missing, where beauty hides quiet danger.

The Essence
Color and atmosphere became the core of the final piece. We leaned on deep blues and violets as the foundation, layered with bright contrasts of red and soft cyan to make the forest feel radiant and enchanted.

To make it feel inhabited, we added the smaller touches: carved stones covered in moss, hanging trinkets, woven bridges, and tiny Fwllings resting among the roots or playing gentle melodies. Those little signs of life completed the world, turning it from an empty landscape into a home.
